The next major milestone for Clarksburg Town Center’s long-awaited retail development will be marked with live music, food trucks, and a hometown performer who recently earned national attention on NBC’s The Voice.
Clarksburg Town Center and Elm Street Development will host a Retail Groundbreaking Summer Concert on Friday, June 20, at the Clarksburg Town Center Amphitheater, located at 13091 Clarksburg Square Road. Headlining the event will be Damascus native Mindy Miller, who recently reached the Top 16 on Season 28 of NBC’s The Voice while competing under coach Snoop Dogg.
The free community event begins at 6pm and will also feature performances by Chris Compton and Karen Jonas, along with food trucks and family-friendly activities. Organizers say the concert is intended to celebrate the next phase of retail development coming to Clarksburg Town Center.
Miller has become one of Montgomery County’s most recognizable emerging musical talents. Born in Frederick and raised in Damascus, she eventually relocated to Nashville, where she built a career as a singer-songwriter rooted in the country, bluegrass, and Americana traditions she grew up with in Maryland.
Her journey into music began at an early age. She learned guitar from her father, performed with his band, sang in church, and participated in family jam sessions that helped shape her distinctive style. As a teenager, she immersed herself in the region’s bluegrass scene, drawing inspiration from groups such as the Country Gentlemen and Johnson Mountain Boys.
In an interview with Notes From The Purple Ape Studios, Miller reflected on getting her start at a now-closed Damascus venue. “We had a music venue open in my hometown called The Music Café,” she recalled. “It was a listening room with a small café where you could only drink coffee/tea and non-alcohol beverages because my town was a ‘dry’ town. I began playing open mic night there to eventually have my own headlined shows there before I could drive.”
Long before appearing on national television, Miller had already performed alongside an impressive list of artists including Reba McEntire, Post Malone, Phil Vassar, Pam Tillis, Jamey Johnson, Michael Bublé, Niall Horan, Lizzo, Zac Brown, Vince Gill, and even her future Voice coach, Snoop Dogg.
Her appearance on The Voice introduced her to a national audience, with viewers and judges praising her raw vocals, fearless performances, and authentic storytelling. Her website describes her music as a blend of soulful storytelling and classic country phrasing, while fans have often characterized her voice as carrying “soul, grit, and grace.”
The concert also serves as a celebration of the significant progress taking place at Clarksburg Town Center’s commercial district. Last month, we reported that Weis Markets officially purchased the 4.5-acre grocery store site where it plans to build an approximately 56,000-square-foot supermarket and gas station. The $5 million sale marked a major milestone for Elm Street Development, which has spent more than a decade working to transform the long-promised town center retail district into reality.
With the grocery site now sold, Elm Street is expected to move forward with additional retail buildings and approximately 190 apartment units. Plans call for roughly 50,000 square feet of additional retail space, including ground-floor retail incorporated into the future apartment buildings.
As construction prepares to move forward, organizers hope the June 20 concert will give residents an opportunity to celebrate both the future of Clarksburg Town Center and one of Montgomery County’s own rising stars.
