Transition From Starbucks to Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins Begins

The transition from Starbucks to Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins is officially underway in Gaithersburg.

Interior construction work has begun at 898 Muddy Branch Road in the Muddy Branch Square shopping center, where a new Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins will replace the former Starbucks location. While an official opening timeline has not yet been announced, it’s possible the new store could welcome customers by the end of the year.

The Starbucks at the site closed in September as part of a nationwide restructuring effort that saw the coffee giant shutter five Montgomery County locations. The closures were tied to a broader $1 billion company initiative aimed at streamlining operations and reducing costs.

Renderings submitted as part of the project show the building rebranded with Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins signage, though no exterior signage has been installed yet. The Muddy Branch Square location is one of several new Dunkin’ projects currently moving forward across Montgomery County as the brand continues an aggressive local expansion effort.

Meanwhile, in Rockville, Dunkin’ is preparing to open in the former Sassy Cleaners space at 4011 Norbeck Road. The longtime dry-cleaning business recently closed after serving the community for more than three decades, clearing the way for the coffee and donut chain’s arrival.
