Redland Road will close beginning Friday, June 19, at 9am as Montgomery County begins construction of a new bridge over Mill Creek.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), the closure will extend from approximately 500 feet north of Briardale Drive to 500 feet south of Overhill Road. The roadway is expected to remain closed through August 24, with plans to reopen by August 25 ahead of the start of the new school year.
During the closure, crews will reconstruct the Mill Creek bridge and complete utility relocation work. Concrete barriers will be installed when the closure begins to protect both workers and the public.
Photos shared by MCDOT show the aging bridge structure and the narrow roadway that currently crosses the creek. Once Redland Road reopens, any remaining work will be completed under temporary lane closures between 9am and 3pm.
County officials are asking drivers to follow the posted detour route and avoid using Briardale Drive or Tupelo Drive as cut-through routes through nearby neighborhoods. MCDOT thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as work moves forward on the bridge replacement project.
