Storm Causes Downed Trees, Wires And Power Outages Across Montgomery County

Strong storms moving through Montgomery County Sunday night brought down trees and power lines in multiple communities, prompting numerous emergency responses.

Assistant Chief David Pazos of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) reported crews responded to multiple calls for downed wires, including on:

  • Glenside Drive in Takoma Park
  • Mink Hollow Road in Sandy Spring
  • Bethesda Church Road in Damascus
  • New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring

“Do not touch any downed wires. Always treat them as live wires,” Pazos reminded residents.

MCFRS also responded to the 27500 block of Clarksburg Road in Damascus for a tree that fell onto a house. No injuries were reported. Pazos added that multiple trees were also reported down along Bethesda Church Road between Clarksburg Road and Johnson Road.

According to Tim Pruss (@MyDronePro), Pepco notified him that 1,591 customers in the Olney area were affected by a power outage Sunday night. Rock Creek Tree, Turf & Landscape also shared photos Monday morning showing storm damage and tree removal operations in the Olney area.

Residents are encouraged to use caution while traveling, avoid downed power lines, and report hazards to the appropriate authorities.
