Washington Spirit Sign Cameroonian Midfielder Monique Ngock

The Washington Spirit have signed Cameroonian midfielder Monique Ngock to a three-year contract through the 2028 season, the club announced Thursday. The agreement also includes a club option for the 2029 season.

Ngock joins the Spirit from FC Fleury 91 in France’s Première Ligue, with Washington paying a transfer fee to acquire the 21-year-old midfielder. “This past season with Fleury 91, Ngock appeared in 19 league matches and scored two goals from midfield, helping the club finish among the top five teams in France’s top division. Before joining Fleury 91, she spent three seasons with Stade de Reims, where she made 41 starts and helped the club earn promotion to the Première Ligue during her second season.

“With the Spirit, I know I can grow into the best version of myself as a player,” Ngock said. “The impressive track record and culture created by the team and the staff has made the club a very attractive destination for me and I can’t wait to get started.”

Sporting Director James Hocken said Ngock’s style of play makes her a strong fit for the club.“Monique is a player with qualities very compatible with our roster and style of play,” Hocken said. “We look forward to her arrival in DC and strong development potential at the Spirit.”

A native of Mfou, Cameroon, Ngock has represented her country at the senior international level since 2022. She was part of Cameroon’s squad that reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations at just 17 years old and has helped the Indomitable Lionesses qualify for this summer’s tournament.

The Spirit return to action on Sunday, July 26, when they host expansion club Denver Summit FC at Audi Field for Women’s Empowerment Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
