The City of Gaithersburg has completed the design for Crown Farm Park, with construction scheduled to begin in August 2026. The new neighborhood park is expected to open to the public in spring 2027.
Located on a 2.99-acre parcel at the corner of Decoverly Drive and Steinbeck Avenue in the Crown community, the park has been in the planning stages for several years. While the site spans nearly three acres, required easements and stream valley buffers reduce the usable park space to approximately 1.5 acres.
Plans for the park include walking paths, a playground, native species landscaping, and open green space for the community to enjoy. The park will also preserve one of the area’s most significant historic features. The 19th century Corn Crib Barn, the oldest surviving structure from the former England-Crown Farm, was previously restored and will remain a centerpiece of the park.
The site is part of the former 175-acre England-Crown Farm, which was annexed into the City of Gaithersburg in 2006. Once one of the last working farms in the city, the property has since transformed into the Crown community, now home to thousands of residences, restaurants, retail, offices, and the future Crown High School.
In addition to the preserved corn crib, the surrounding historic farmstead includes two silos, a concrete block garage with an attached storage shed, a corrugated metal grain bin, and several privately owned historic structures, including a 19th century Manor House, smokehouse, and early log house. Those buildings have all been designated by the City as historic resources.
