MUI Supper Club, a high-end Japanese restaurant specializing in A5 wagyu, omakase and theatrical tableside dining, is aiming to open at Pike & Rose by the end of September. The restaurant will also offer a limited membership program, with annual tiers ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 and benefits such as priority reservations, private dining experiences and access to off-menu dishes. Sneak peek photos of the upcoming restaurant can be seen below.
MUI is currently hiring for its upcoming location at 967 Rose Ave in North Bethesda, taking over the space previously occupied by The Block food hall from 2019 until 2024.
MUI Supper Club describes its cuisine as a combination of traditional Japanese techniques and modern innovation, guided by the Daoist philosophy of Wu Wei, or “effortless action.” In addition to omakase and A5 wagyu, the restaurant will offer dishes prepared on a robata grill.
The menu is divided into cold tastings, hot tastings, main courses, desserts and cocktails. Cold selections include the Jukusei Toro Jewel Box with 30-day-aged otoro, Himalayan salt, dry ice, gold leaf and finger lime; the Crystal Seafood Terrarium with dashi gelée, uni, ikura and snow crab; and The Golden Spoon, featuring A5 wagyu tartare, Kaluga caviar and a quail egg sphere. Other cold dishes include the Sakura Smoke Garden, made with cherry blossom-cured A5 tataki and presented with volcanic stone beneath a smoke cloche.
Hot tastings include the Phoenix Egg, a gold-leafed sphere with foie gras, black truffle and dashi that is torched tableside; Wagyu Niku Kappo, featuring A5 wagyu cubes served with a tabletop binchotan stone and seven dipping sauces; and Smoke & Fire Gyoza with wagyu, truffle, black garlic ponzu and a glass-crisp lattice beneath a smoke dome.
Main courses include The Eternal Flame, a 72-hour koji-aged A5 tomahawk cooked over a wara-yaki fire and served with bone marrow butter. Other selections include Ocean’s Treasure Chest, a seasonal omakase platter with otoro, uni and botan ebi presented in a locked chest with dry ice; the 40-ounce MUI Tomahawk with A5 wagyu, bone marrow and truffle jus; and the Hot Rock Experience, featuring A5 wagyu, otoro, prawn and foie gras served on a 700-degree volcanic stone.
Dessert options include The Smoke Sphere, a dark chocolate sphere with yuzu crème, matcha and tableside hojicha caramel, as well as a molten Matcha Lava Cake with black sesame ice cream, kinako and edible flowers. The cocktail menu includes Dragon’s Breath, made with Hibiki whisky, charcoal, dragon fruit and yuzu and served in a dry ice goblet.
The restaurant will also offer three annual membership levels with exclusive benefits:
