The Rockville City Police Department has charged a 33-year-old Rockville man in connection with multiple thefts from vehicles in the city’s West End neighborhood.
Police said they had been investigating thefts from vehicles in the neighborhood for several months, with the number of incidents increasing significantly in July. Detectives obtained surveillance video of a suspect and released an image on social media on August 19, asking for the public’s help identifying him.
On August 25, members of the department’s Special Assignment Unit observed a person matching the suspect’s description in the 200 block of N Washington Street. Officers identified him as Tyler Kennard Thomas, 33, of Rockville.
According to police, Thomas had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction for a rogue and vagabond charge and was taken into custody while Rockville detectives continued investigating the vehicle thefts.
Detectives subsequently connected Thomas to multiple incidents in Rockville, police said. He was arrested on August 27 and charged with six counts of rogue and vagabond, four counts of theft and two counts of attempted theft.
Thomas was transported to the Central Processing Unit. The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Pat Hinaris at 240-314-8900. A mugshot was not provided in the press release.
