The Montgomery County Department of Transportation will adjust schedules for 20 Ride On bus routes beginning in September to improve efficiency, service delivery and on-time performance.
Starting Sunday, September 6, timetable changes will take effect for 19 routes:
1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 26, 33, 34, 37, 38, 40, 41 and 47.
Additional changes will begin Tuesday, September 8, when the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit Blue Line is extended into Howard County. The route currently operates between the Silver Spring Transit Center and Burtonsville.
The extension will add four Flash stops north of Burtonsville, providing connections to the Mall in Columbia and Merriweather. Service will operate every 15 minutes during weekday rush hours.
Two Ride On stops at Carroll Avenue and Maple Avenue in Takoma Park, identified as stops 20806 and 20742, will also be discontinued beginning September 6. The stops currently serve routes 12, 13, 16, 18 and 25.
Riders may instead use stops at Carroll Street NW and Laurel Avenue, identified as stops 20804 and 20744, or Takoma Station.
MCDOT said the changes represent a shift of resources intended to provide more reliable service where demand is higher. Decisions are based on rider feedback, ridership and performance data, and service-delivery goals. Updated schedules will be available online at RideOnBus.com and in print.
