Takoma Park Opens Public Facilities as Heat Index Expected to Reach 100 Degrees

Takoma Park Police are urging residents to take precautions as the heat index is expected to reach 100 degrees or higher this week.

Police asked residents to share the information with people who may not receive emails or have access to social media and to check on neighbors during the extreme heat. Residents are also encouraged to watch for heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The following Takoma Park facilities will be open to anyone seeking relief from the heat:

The Takoma Park Community Center, located at 7500 Maple Ave, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30am-9:30pm, Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from noon-5pm.

The Recreation Center, located at 7315 New Hampshire Ave, is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:30-9pm; Tuesday and Thursday from noon-9pm; and Saturday from 9am-5pm. The facility is closed on Sundays except for rentals.

The Takoma Park Maryland Library, located at 101 Philadelphia Ave, is open Monday through Thursday from 10am-8pm and Friday through Sunday from noon-6pm.

Residents are advised to remain hydrated, stay indoors when possible, check on friends and loved ones, and keep pets protected during the hot weather.
