The closure of Redland Road for construction of a new bridge over Mill Creek has been extended through Sunday, October 11, according to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).
The road has been closed since June 19 as crews reconstruct the Mill Creek bridge and complete utility relocation work. The closure was originally expected to remain in place through August 24, with the roadway scheduled to reopen ahead of the start of the new school year.
MCDOT said Tuesday that the construction team needs additional time to complete the project, extending the closure by approximately seven weeks beyond the original timeline.
The closure extends from approximately 500 feet north of Briardale Drive to 500 feet south of Overhill Road. The extension will also continue to impact MCDOT Ride On routes 53 and 57. County officials have previously asked drivers to follow the posted detour and avoid using Briardale Drive or Tupelo Drive as cut-through routes through nearby neighborhoods.
Once Redland Road reopens, remaining work is expected to be completed under temporary lane closures.
