Starbucks is permanently closing its Pike & Rose and White Oak Town Center locations as the company prepares to close hundreds of underperforming stores across North America.
Starbucks announced Thursday that it will close approximately 250 underperforming locations across North America, according to Business Insider. Two Montgomery County stores are among the locations expected to close.
Readers contacted The MoCoShow on Thursday to report that the Starbucks at 11802 Grand Park Ave. in Pike & Rose would be closing permanently. Signage posted at the store on Thursday, however, stated that the coffeehouse is only “temporarily closed” and that Starbucks is working to reopen it “as soon as possible.”
By Friday morning, the signage at Pike & Rose had been replaced with a new notice confirming the permanent closure. “We’ve made the very difficult decision to close this Starbucks location by the end of this week,” the new sign reads.
The notice thanks customers for their support and acknowledges the relationships that have developed between customers and employees at the store. “We know this may be hard to hear – because this isn’t just any store,” Starbucks wrote. “It’s your coffeehouse, a place woven into your daily rhythm, where memories were made and meaningful connections with our partners grew.”
The sign directs customers to the nearby Starbucks at 17 Paseo Dr. in North Bethesda. The MoCoShow called that location Thursday evening, and a representative confirmed that the Pike & Rose Starbucks is expected to close permanently on Sunday.
The closure comes almost exactly one year after Starbucks mistakenly told customers that the Pike & Rose store was closing. In September 2025, customers received an email stating that Starbucks had “made the very difficult decision” to close the Pike & Rose Grand Park Ave location at the end of the day on September 27. At that time, employees told The MoCoShow at the time that the store was not scheduled to close and that they had been informed the email was sent in error. The location remained open for another year.
Spencer Allen Brooks of WUSA9 reports that the Starbucks at White Oak Town Center, located at 12255 Prosperity Dr. in Silver Spring, will close Saturday. That location opened less than two years ago. Brooks also reports that the Starbucks at 1734 L St. NW in Washington DC will close Friday evening and that no Northern Virginia stores will close.
