Six People Rescued After Two Jet Skis Flip in Potomac River

Six people were accounted for and uninjured after two jet skis flipped in the Potomac River near Riley’s Lock on Friday, prompting a swift water rescue response from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer initially reported that two jet skis had flipped near Riley’s Lock, Lock 24 along the C&O Canal, with as many as six people in the water and believed to be in distress. MCFRS responded with swift water rescue boats and a helicopter.

In an update, Piringer said two jet skis were involved and a total of six people ended up in the water near Seneca Creek. Swift water rescue crews made contact with those needing assistance, and all six people were accounted for.

Piringer said all of the “accidental swimmers” were uninjured.
