Woman Injured, Two Cats Killed in Apartment Fire

A fire inside an eighth-floor apartment in Silver Spring Friday night left one woman injured and two cats dead, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).

MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos said crews were dispatched around 10:15pm to 1401 Blair Mill Rd after a 911 caller reported a fire inside a closet in an eighth-floor apartment.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the apartment where it started. An adult woman from the apartment was later located with injuries and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two cats from the apartment died in the fire.

Pazos said two units on the eighth floor sustained water damage. Building management is assisting any residents who were displaced, and the building was turned back over to management after MCFRS reduced its presence at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
