Purple Line construction will cause overnight closures at Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring beginning Monday, October 5, with work expected to be completed Thursday, October 15.
The closures will take place nightly from 10pm to 4am Ride On Routes 15, 16, 17, 20, and 28 will follow detours during those hours, with several bus stops temporarily bypassed.
Route 15 will detour via Georgia Avenue, Colesville Road, and Spring/Cedar streets in both directions. Riders traveling toward Takoma Langley Transit Center should use Silver Spring Transit Center Bay 222 or the eastbound Wayne Avenue stop at Cedar Street. Riders heading toward Silver Spring Transit Center should use the westbound Wayne Avenue stop at Cedar Street or Bay 222.
Routes 16 and 17 will detour via Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring Avenue, and Fenton Street toward Takoma and Takoma Langley Transit Center, respectively. Trips toward Silver Spring Transit Center will use Thayer Avenue, Georgia Avenue, and Wayne Avenue.
Route 20 toward Hillandale will detour via Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring Avenue, Fenton Street, and Thayer Avenue. Trips toward Silver Spring Transit Center will continue along Thayer Avenue to Georgia Avenue and Wayne Avenue.
Route 28 will detour from Fenton Street onto Colesville Road and Georgia Avenue before returning to its regular route. Riders should use the southbound Fenton Street stop at Colesville Road with stop ID 17159.
The detour notice lists the following alternate stops for Routes 16, 17, and 20:
- Routes 16 and 17 outbound: Northbound Georgia Avenue at Ellsworth Street, stop 14677.
- Routes 16 and 17 toward Silver Spring Transit Center: Northbound Fenton Street at Thayer Avenue, stop 22166.
- Route 20 toward Hillandale: Northbound Georgia Avenue at Ellsworth Street, stop 14677, or eastbound Thayer Avenue at Fenton Street, stop 26372.
- Route 20 toward Silver Spring Transit Center: Thayer Avenue at Fenton Street, stop 26398.
All Ride On, Ride On extRa, Ride On Flex, and Flash buses are fare-free.
