Electric Scooter Rider Critically Injured in Thursday Night Collision

An electric scooter rider was seriously injured in a collision Thursday night in Kensington, according to Montgomery County Police. The collision occurred around 9:47pm in the area of Connecticut Ave (MD-185) and Knowles Ave (MD-547).

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer initially reported shortly after 10pm that crews were on the scene of a collision involving a pedestrian and that some lanes were blocked. Public safety reporter Cordell Pugh reported that the patient was transported to an area trauma center with critical traumatic injuries.

MCPD later provided preliminary information identifying the injured person as an adult male operating an electric scooter. Police said he was transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to MCPD, officers from the department’s 2nd District responded to the collision at approximately 9:47pm. Police said the driver of the striking vehicle has been located. Additional information about the circumstances surrounding the collision was not immediately available.
