Texas Man Accused of Striking Police Officer with Firearm During Stolen Corvette Investigation

A 23-year-old Texas man has been arrested and charged with first-degree assault and multiple firearms-related offenses after allegedly striking a Montgomery County Police officer in the head with a firearm during an investigation involving a stolen Chevrolet Corvette in Silver Spring.

On Monday, November 2, at approximately 10:44 p.m., a Montgomery County Police 4th District officer observed a stolen Chevrolet Corvette traveling southbound on New Hampshire Avenue. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Anne Arundel County on October 1.

Police deployed Raven 32, which observed the Corvette park in a driveway in the 900 block of Hollywood Avenue. Two individuals exited the vehicle and entered a residence.

According to police, as a plainclothes officer approached the Corvette, one of the suspects, identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Armstrong Smith of Dallas, Texas, exited the residence armed with a rifle. Smith allegedly struck the officer in the head with the firearm before fleeing as additional officers arrived.

With assistance from a Prince George’s County police helicopter and a K-9 unit, officers located and arrested Smith in the 900 block of Winhall Way.

During the investigation, detectives recovered a privately manufactured AR-style pistol belonging to Smith that had reportedly been discarded in the 1000 block of Hollywood Avenue. Police also arrested a 22-year-old Silver Spring man believed to have been driving the stolen Corvette. He was taken into custody without incident and later released pending further investigation.

Smith was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with first-degree assault, possession of a stolen vehicle and multiple firearms-related offenses. He is currently being held without bond.

Photos of the suspects have not been released by police.
