Family Launches Fundraiser After Loved One Killed in Rockville Shooting

The family of a man killed in an early Wednesday morning shooting in Rockville has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and burial expenses.

According to the fundraiser, the victim has been identified by his family as Richard Hernandez, whose life was taken in an act of violence shortly after midnight on November 4, 2026.

“Richard was a beloved son, brother, father, and uncle. He loved his family deeply, and above all, he loved his son more than anything,” his sibling wrote in the fundraiser. “Our mother is now facing the unimaginable pain of losing her son, and all of us are grieving a loss that came far too soon.”

The family is seeking financial assistance to arrange Hernandez’s funeral and burial, explaining that they urgently need to secure a funeral home so his body can be released from the medical examiner and funeral arrangements can begin. All donations will go toward funeral, burial, and related expenses. The family is also encouraging those unable to contribute financially to share the fundraiser.

As previously reported, officers from Rockville City Police and the Montgomery County Department of Police responded to the 200 block of North Washington Street at approximately 12:25 am on Wednesday, November 4, after receiving a report of a person down in the roadway. Officers located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting. As of the department’s initial update, no one was in custody, and no suspect information had been released. Police had not yet officially identified the victim.
