Teen Pleads Guilty to Assault in Street Takeover That Damaged Police Cruisers

A 19-year-old Boyds man has pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in connection with a street takeover in Chevy Chase that resulted in damage to two Montgomery County Police cruisers earlier this year.

Derrick Kingston Henry was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 30 days suspended. He must report to jail by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 9, to begin serving his sentence.

Henry will also serve three years of supervised probation and pay $2,000 in restitution to Montgomery County. As a condition of probation, he is prohibited from organizing, encouraging or participating in car meetups.

The incident occurred on February 22, 2026, when a large group of vehicles involved in street takeover activity traveled from Prince George’s County into Montgomery County. At approximately 12:39 a.m., the group gathered at East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, where drivers blocked traffic and performed donuts in the roadway. During the incident, two marked Montgomery County Police cruisers were damaged. One cruiser had its windshield and rear window shattered while an officer was inside. No officers were injured.

Maryland State Police assisted in clearing the area, and Montgomery County Police subsequently sought the public’s assistance in identifying those involved.
