Xi’an Famous Foods quietly opened Thursday, Nov. 5, at Montrose Crossing in Rockville, marking the New York-based Chinese fast-casual chain’s first Maryland location. A video of the experience can be seen below.
The restaurant is located at 12031 Rockville Pike, in the Montrose Crossing shopping center next to RASA and Five Guys, in the former Boardroom Salon space. The 1,718 SF location brings the company’s signature hand-ripped noodles and western Chinese cuisine to Montgomery County.
The menu features dishes based on family recipes, including Spicy Cumin Lamb Hand-Ripped Noodles, Stewed Pork Burgers, Liang Pi Cold Skin Noodles, and Spicy and Sour Lamb Dumplings.
Xi’an Famous Foods began in late 2005 as a 200 SF basement stall inside Flushing’s Golden Shopping Mall in Queens. Often described as “Anthony Bourdain’s favorite Chinese food,” the family-owned company gained national recognition after the late chef and television host praised its food. The restaurant specializes in the cuisine of Xi’an, a historic city in western China.
The opening follows months of construction at the Rockville location. As previously reported, a $100,000 permit was issued in July for interior construction, with work continuing through the summer. The restaurant is now open to the public.
