MCPS: 8 Things to Know for Thursday, July 14, 2022

Per Montgomery County Public Schools:

Here are eight things to know for Thursday, July 14. They include vaccination information for children 5 and under, information about the Back-to-School Fair, a closure reminder for primary election day, summer meal locations and more.

  1. All Schools and Summer Programs Closed on Primary Election Day, July 19
    Many MCPS schools are polling locations; therefore, all MCPS schools and summer programs are closed on Tuesday, July 19, including all community events, daycare, camps and wellness centers. Summer programs resume on July 20. MCPS staff will receive information separately through email.

  2. college conversations hashtagCollege Conversations: Connecting Students of Color to Top Colleges
    This event is for rising high school seniors of color and college admissions officers. This virtual college fair is on July 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The evening offers a unique experience for students of color to gain exposure to the nuanced admissions processes of colleges and universities that fit their abilities.

  3. fairSave the Date: MCPS Back-to-School Fair to Be Held Saturday, Aug. 27
    All MCPS students and their families are invited to kick off the new school year at the Back-to-School Fair, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Westfield Wheaton mall. The event is a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about the school system and county programs and services, while enjoying family-friendly activities, entertainment, a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic and more. Westfield Wheaton is located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton.

  4. Registration for Fall Athletics Now Open
    Parents and guardians can now register their student-athletes for high school fall athletics using ParentVue. Resources to assist with the online registration process can be found here. Physical evaluations are required prior to the first day of fall season tryouts, Aug. 10, 2022; forms are available here. Resources in Spanish are available here. Registration for middle school fall athletics opens on Aug. 15, 2022. Additional information regarding middle school athletics registration can be found here.

  5. School-Based Vaccination Clinics Continue this Summer
    MCPS, in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, is vaccinating children aged 6 months to 5 years old at school-based vaccination sites. Learn more and make an appointment.

  7. Summer Meals Free at MCPS Locations
    Free meals are being served at approximately 175 sites throughout the county every weekday. All children 18 and younger, as well as persons with physical and mental disabilities up to 21 years old, are eligible to receive meals. Walk-ins can also go to open sites for meal service.   8. backpacksHelp Students In Need by Donating to Annual GIVE BACKpacks Campaign
    Consider donating to the 11th annual GIVE BACKpacks campaign to support the distribution of backpacks and school supplies to students in MCPS schools. We need your support, now more than ever, as the cost per backpack with supplies has increased to $15 due to supply chain and inflation issues, and the need is great. MCPS places orders throughout the summer with the goal of providing as many students as possible with a backpack with school supplies at the start of the school year.
