One Person Arrested and Charged for Armed Carjacking and Armed Robbery of Popeyes; Detectives Attempt to Identify Second Suspect

At approximately 9:06 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the unit block of White Oak Vista Ct. for an armed carjacking that just occurred. The preliminary investigation determined that a delivery driver was walking back to his car when he was approached by two Black males, wearing all dark clothing and black ski masks. One of the suspects displayed a black handgun, pointed it at the victim and demanded his property and car. The victim complied and the suspects fled in a grey 2019 Honda Accord.

At approximately 9:23 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 11300 block of Lockwood Dr. for the report of an armed robbery at a Popeyes.

The preliminary investigation determined that the same two suspects who committed the armed carjacking, entered the restaurant, pulled out a black handgun and demanded money from the cashier. Hearing loud screams, another restaurant employee came to the front. The suspects pointed the gun at the employee and demanded that the stores’ safe be opened. The employee complied and the suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then left in the Honda Accord taken in the carjacking.

With the assistance of Prince George’s County Police helicopter, Guardian 1, and Metropolitan Police Department, officers located the car in Washington, D.C. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ross, was placed into custody following a foot chase.

Ross is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with armed robbery and armed carjacking related charges.

Detectives are attempting to identify the second suspect, who is described as a Black male, approximately 5-feet, 5-inches to 5-feet, 6-inches tall, with a slim build. He was wearing all black clothing and grey sneakers. The suspect is possibly known to frequent the White Oak area and Washington, D.C. Detectives have released a picture of the second suspect.

Anyone with information about this suspect or this crime is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or 240-773-TIPS or contact Crimes Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).
