Update: Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones will hold a press conference at 2pm regarding the Wayne Avenue homicide investigation. Commander David McBain will discuss steps the 3rd District is taking to ensure public safety in downtown Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Police are investigating the cause of death of a man in his 60’s that was found in the Wayne Avenue Parking Garage (Garage 60) near Ellsworth Dr. in Downtown Silver Spring on Wednesday night. Police initially responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call that someone had been stabbed, but inspection of scene indicated the victim may have been shot and the official cause of death has not been determined.

According to MCPD, “At approximately 8:59 p.m., officers responded to the parking garage on Wayne Ave. and Fenton St. and located in a stairwell an adult male dead with trauma to his body.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy to officially determine the cause and manner of death. This is an active and ongoing investigation. A formal news release will be distributed as more information becomes available.”

Assistant Chief Administrative Officer in Montgomery County Earl Stoddard tweeted the following: “Terrible tragedy. I feel both gutted for the family & community as well as frustrated after all the efforts undertaken to address safety in DTSS this year. Obviously more work to do. I know @mcpnews is going to be working aggressively on this investigation over the coming days.”
