2-Alarm Church Fire Collapses Roof, Injures Firefighters on Monday Afternoon


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at a Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church on 5400 Western Ave in Chevy Chase on Monday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, units responded to a call for fire/smoke in the building at shortly before 12:30pm. Crews arrived to m find the fire and smoke coming from the roof of the building. The 2-alarm fire collapsed at least a portion of the roof, caused structural damage, and injured a firefighter, according to Piringer.

In a video update, Piringer stated that a couple firefighters were struck by falling debris and suffered minor injuries after being evaluated on the scene. DC Fire and MCFRS units remain on the scene.
