Plant-Based Restaurant Included in ‘Best Restaurant in Maryland’ List by Washingtonian Magazine

Washingtonian Magazine has released its “Readers’ Favorite Restaurants” article with plant-based restaurant Planta, located in Montgomery County, coming in third place in the ‘Best Restaurant in Maryland’ category. Rockville’s Bob’s Shanghai 66 came in first.

Planta, an upscale plant-based restaurant featuring a menu by Chef David Lee, opened at 4910 Elm St at Bethesda Row in early 2022. “Bethesda Row’s chic vegan restaurant–which has siblings in Toronto and Miami–serves watermelon “sushi” and carbonara with mushroom bacon.” Washingtonian writes.

Planta was founded in 2016 and currently has several locations in Florida, New York, and Toronto. Planta has been notable for serving a long list of different celebrities who aren’t plant-based like Rob Gronkowski, Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber and more, pushing that the restaurant was created for everyone.

In a recent interview, the owner of Planta Steve Salm explained how he wanted Planta to also appeal to carnivores, people who are used to the seasonings and flavors of meat and still get the taste they love but instead it’s marinated on vegetables. “Our greatest pleasures are what a guest gets from their experience and they say ‘That was just amazing’, ‘I can’t wait to come back’, instead of saying something like, ‘Wow, that’s just so good for a vegan restaurant’, or ‘I can’t believe it’s vegan, it’s so good’,” said the owner.
