Origin,
an upcoming film written and directed by Ava DuVernay and based on Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, will be out in theaters on January 19th (trailer available below). The movie, which is about “the unspoken system that has shaped America and chronicles how lives today are defined by a hierarchy of human divisions” stars two Montgomery County natives- Jon Bernthal and Myles Frost.

Jon Bernthal plays the role of Wilkerson’s husband. He is popular for his many roles in television and movies such as, The Walking Dead, The Punisher, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Accountant, Ford v Ferrari, and much more. He grew up in the Cabin John area and graduated from Sidwell Friends in DC in 1995. He still has family in the area and is spotted hanging out in MoCo all the time.

Myles Frost plays the role of Trayvon Martin. Frost graduated from Wootton High School in Rockville in 2017. In December of 2021, he took over the role of Michael Jackson on Broadway’s MJ. Last year, he won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. While in high school at Wootton, Frost performed “Billie Jean” at a talent show that his mom filmed on her iPad, which led to Frost’s current acting coach reaching out to see if he could still emulate Jackson’s movements as well as he did in Rockville in 2016.
