Gong Cha and Kyo Matcha Close at The Block in Pike & Rose; Future of Food Hall Uncertain

Gong cha and Kyo Matcha (formerly Kyoto Matcha) have both closed inside of The Block Foodhall & Bar at 967 Rose Ave. in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose, according to Instagram account @pike.and.rozay.

Gong cha is a Taiwanese beverage franchise that specializes in bubble tea and coffee. Kyo Matcha is a dessert shop that features matcha tea-flavored cakes, ice cream, and mochi. Vendors currently remaining in The Block include Little Miner Tacos, OMA Sushi & Oyster Bar, and The Block Bar.

We spoke to a representative from The Block last month who told us that “we may close, we may stay open.” There is an additional The Block location in a Annandale, VA who tells that they are no longer affiliated with the Pike & Rose location.

We have been told by various sources that a Japanese Izakaya may be next for the space, but have been unable to confirm. The site is currently listed as TBD on the Federal Realty listing page. We will provide an update when additional information becomes available.
