Washington Sports Club closed its last Maryland location on January 31st when the location at 10400 Old Georgetown Rd in Georgetown Square, known as “Bethesda North”, closed permanently after 20 years.
The company was founded in New York City in 1973 as Town Squash Inc. What began as an opportunity to bring the popular sport of squash to the New York masses exploded into to a network of full-service fitness clubs across seven states and two countries (including Switzerland). The company recently announced plans to rename most of its brands as New York Sports Club, including two remaining DMV locations in DC.
Previous locations in Montgomery County have also closed in recent years– Downtown Silver Spring in October 2020 and “Bethesda South” in June 2020. The gym also had a Germantown location years ago.
