Commanders Release Two Longtime Starters

The changes are happening quickly in Washington, as new GM Adam Peters has made the decision to release two longtime starters for the Commanders- Left Tackle Charles Leno and Tight End Logan Thomas.

Leno was signed prior to the start of the 2021 season and has been the team’s starting left tackle for the last three years. He had solid campaigns his first two years with many across the league believing his play slipped a bit last season. Leno, 32, ended the season on injured reserve. He will have offseason hip surgery, according to his wife.

Logan Thomas has been Washington’s starting tight end for the last four seasons. Thomas played quarterback at Virginia Tech and threw nine passes for the Arizona Cardinals as a rookie back in 2014. He found success as a tight end at the end of 2019 in Detroit and signed on with Washington in 2020 when he has his best season, catching 72 balls for 670 yards and 6 touchdowns. First reported by Mike Garafolo.

Adam Schefter reports that the Commanders will also be releasing 2023 free agent signing Nick Gates (center) when the new league year begins. Gates started 10 games for Washington last season.
