Gaithersburg High School Student Arrested After Bringing Loaded Privately Manufactured Handgun to School

A Gaithersburg High School student was arrested today after in bring a loaded “ghost gun” to school.

Per the City of Gaithersburg: Community Engagement Officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department have arrested 18-year-old, Josue Rivas of Gaithersburg, MD for possession of a loaded privately manufactured handgun on the campus of Gaithersburg High School.
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at approximately 10:46 a.m., Gaithersburg Police, Community Engagement Officers were called to Gaithersburg High School located in the 100 block of Education Boulevard for an investigation. During the course of the investigation, Montgomery County Public Schools security team members made contact with Rivas, conducted a search, and located a loaded handgun in the presence of officers. Based on the information provided and the recovery of the handgun, officers arrested Rivas.
Rivas was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He has been charged with underage possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded handgun, and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.
