Man Indicted and Charged in Deadly Street Racing Collision

Montgomery County Police have announced that a Silver Spring man has been indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on charges related to a fatal collision.

Per the news release: 33-year-old Aaron Givens turned himself in to Montgomery County Police on March 4, 2024, on the strength of a warrant charging him with negligent homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent homicide by vehicle and driving a vehicle in a race/speed contest.

On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at approximately 2:23 p.m., 1st District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the area of West Gude Dr. and Watkins Pond Blvd. in Rockville for a collision involving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 driven by 28-year-old Romario Coke, of Silver Spring.

The initial investigation showed that Coke was driving eastbound on West Gude Dr. at a high rate of speed when he lost control and crashed into a tree in the center median. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following an investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit, detectives learned that Coke was racing with a blue Ram 1500 TRX pickup driven by Givens.

Givens was released on an unsecured personal bond.
