Approximately 65 Firefighters Respond to Large Brush Fire Wednesday Evening

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a large brush fire (including grass and trees) at Old Hundred Rd near Comus Rd in the Boyds/Dickerson/Barnesville area at approximately 5pm on Wednesday evening.

According to MCFRS Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer, the brush fire was likely started by a downed power line and spread due to the high winds. Approximately 65 firefighters were on the scene at 6pm and the brush/grass/woods fire was generally contained.

In a 7pm update, the fire was about 85% contained, with no injuries, and damage to one shed. All of the houses in the area remained protected. In an update just before 8pm, Piringer stated firefighters were still working on “hotspots” with wind gusts up to 35 mph. Old Hundred Rd. was closed due to fire department activity until an announcement at 10:51pm stating that the road reopened.
