At approximately 7:58 pm on Sunday night, Takoma Park Police responded to the area of Maple Avenue and Sligo Creek Parkway for a report of a “personal injury collision.”

Per Takoma Park Police: “Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle disabled from the crash.  Subsequently, officers located the victim, later identified as the driver, who had walked from the crash scene and collapsed near the old Washington Adventist Hospital. The victim appeared to have a gunshot wound to his leg.

According to a witness statement, a front seat passenger fled the scene.  Park Police and Montgomery County Police Department’s K9 unit promptly responded to the scene to conduct a search for the passenger.  Despite extensive efforts, the passenger was not located.

The victim, an adult Hispanic male, was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.  Preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting incident may have occurred at another location and the victim and passenger subsequently drove to the scene where the collision took place.  The preliminary investigation does not indicate that there is any ongoing threat to public safety.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact us at 301-270-1100.”
