
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the Potomac River/Great Falls today at approximately 6:20pm for a kayak with two occupants that went over the Maryland Falls.
According to Assistant Chief David Pazos, one kayaker was rescued, treated, and released by Fairfax Fire. The second kayaker was removed by Park Police helicopter via a rescue basket.
The injured kayaker was located at the base of the falls and transported by helicopter to area trauma hospital. Their red kayak remains stuck in a hydraulic current, unable to be recovered. MCFRS Swift Water Rescue boats are returning to shore.
