On May 2nd, the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center (MCASAC) announced it was closed to the public due to an outbreak of Canine Influenza (CIV). On Friday, May 24th, they shared a the most recent updates in a post on social media:
“Canine Influenza Virus Week 3 Update: We are thrilled to share that this week, we have had 0 new cases of Canine Influenza Virus (CIV)! This is fantastic news and has only been made possible thanks to our staff and community’s combined efforts to isolate and make CIV protocols the highest priority.
As of May 24th, the total number of cases remains steady at 54. Currently, 11 dogs are showing mild symptoms, but thankfully, no dogs are in critical condition. The remaining 43 dogs appear to have recovered and are not showing any clinical signs.
We’re excited to share that 17 animals living in foster homes found their forever families this past week! While on-site adoptions are still paused, there are still plenty of animals available for adoption from foster care, so make sure to check them out on our website if you’re looking to adopt.
In other news, we are still in need of Canine Influenza isolation dog fosters! If you have no other pets in your home and are interested in helping us out, please visit our Fostering page to learn more.
Thank you all for your continued support during this challenging time. Your efforts and dedication are making a significant difference in the lives of our animals!”
