On May 2nd, the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center (MCASAC) announced it was closed to the public due to an outbreak of Canine Influenza (CIV). Last week, they shared the following update in a post on social media:
“We have had 0 new cases of Canine Influenza Virus (CIV) this week! This fantastic news has only been made possible thanks to our staff and community’s combined efforts to isolate and prioritize CIV protocols.
As of June 4th, the total number of cases remains at 54. Currently, 4 dogs are showing mild symptoms, but thankfully, no dogs are in critical condition. The remaining 50 dogs appear to have recovered and are not showing any clinical signs.
This week’s MVPs are our animal care attendants, dog walking volunteers, and those who have assisted with daily care. They have gone above and beyond for over a month to keep CIV isolated while maintaining a high standard of care. We still have a little way to go, but we are almost there. THANK YOU!
In other news, we are still in need of Canine Influenza isolation dog fosters! If you have no other pets in your home and are interested in helping us out, please visit our Fostering page: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/animalservices/volunteer/Foster.html
Thank you all for your continued support during this challenging time. Your efforts and dedication are making a significant difference in the lives of our animals!
