Students at MCPS’ Rolling Terrace Elementary School in Takoma Park got the chance to spend a summer afternoon with professional soccer star Luis Palma.
Palma is a Honduran footballer who plays as a winger on the Scottish Premiership club Celtic and the Honduras national team. He has also played professionally in leagues in Honduras, the United Stated, and Greece. Palma became the second Honduran player to ever score in the Champions League when he scored for Celtic against Atletico Madrid in 2023.
The effort to bring Palma to the school was organized by the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) through its Let’s Play! Program. MSYSA, is designed to transform the lives of participants that helps to teach social, emotional and team working skills while always aiming to grow excitement around soccer. The program is offered exclusively to Title 1 and Community Schools across Maryland.
