She was born and raised in Bethesda and attended the Holton-Arms School on River Road. After appearing on Broadway shows, commercials, and multiple television shows in the 80s, Patricia Richardson got her big break when she landed the role of Jill Taylor on Home Improvement as a last minute replacement. The role led to Richardson receiving four Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations. While working on Home Improvement in 1994, she co-hosted the Emmys with Ellen DeGeneres. TV Guide also named Jill Taylor the 7th best TV Mom of all-time.

Currently, Richardson lives in Los Angeles and will be turning 70 years old this upcoming February. The featured photograph comes from one of her high school yearbooks and below you’ll see a shot from her Home Improvement days.

Washington Sports Club closed its Downtown Silver Spring location (901 Wayne Ave) permanently, as first reported by Source of the Spring. The gym closed it’s “Bethesda South” location in June of 2020 and redirected members to the Bethesda location in Georgetown Square. We are told that the current “North Bethesda” (technically located in Bethesda) location is offering a promotion that allows you to switch to their club, which is 7.5 miles away. The representative at the North Bethesda location told us that there is currently no plan to close the gym, but parent company Town Sports international filed for bankruptcy in September.

Kanye West has qualified as a write-in candidate for president on the 2020 Election Maryland ballot, the Maryland State Board of Elections and Kanye West confirmed last week.

In a general election, a voter can cast a write-in vote for a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot. West’s name will not appear on the ballot, but any write-in vote for him will be tabulated and shared in the results of the election as opposed to a write-in vote for someone who has not qualified as a write-in candidate.

2022 is the 161st anniversary of The Battle of Ball’s Bluff. According to local lore, the area around the 33/34 Mile Mark of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (C&O Canal) near Poolesville is haunted by the ghosts of Civil War Soldiers (photos below).

During the early days of the American Civil War, Union soldiers ferried across the Potomac River from the Maryland side in Montgomery County to the Virginia side for the Battle of Ball’s Bluff against the Confederate Army, who were camped alongside the river in Leesburg, VA.

Ssong’s Hotdogs, a popular South Korean chain, is opening what was the second announced U.S. location in the Montgomery Mall food court (it’ll now be the third to open).

The original plan was to open this November, which is still the date listed on the Ssong’s website, but we’re told there have been delays with construction so things are pushed back a bit.
