The Water Department will be flushing hydrants this month in Poolesville to reduce and remove the accumulation of rust and iron in the water mains. The flushing may cause discolored water from the loose sediment, and we advise residents not to wash white clothes for 24 hours following the flushing. The schedule can be seen below:

With workers paying an average of over $6,100 per year toward employer-sponsored family coverage and Every Kid Healthy Week kicking off on April 24, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2023’s Best & Worst States for Children’s Health Care, and Maryland came in ranked as the 7th best state for children’s health care.
In order to determine which states offer the most cost-effective and highest-quality health care for children, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 33 key metrics. The data set ranges from share of children aged 0 to 17 in excellent or very good health to pediatricians and family doctors per capita.

In October, we let you know that a new Korean barbecue restaurant signed on to take over the space previously occupied by Saffron Indian Cuisine at Woodmont Station in Rockville (1319 Rockville Pike). In February we let you know that the restaurant is Damso Korean BBQ, and now we know that the soft opening will be held on Friday, April 14th from 5pm-9pm.
Construction is complete and signage has been up for a couple months at the upcoming Korean bbq restaurant. A hearing with Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) took place in March the restaurant is now ready to go. Saffron Indian Cuisine occupied the space from 2014 until it closed in May 2022.
Per the Rockville City Police Department: Rockville City Police is pleased to welcome our new Mental Health Specialist, Ms. Beth Loftus. As RCPD’s first Mental Health Specialist, Beth is assigned to the Special Operations Division where she serves as a resource when police officers encounter people in the community with mental health issues. This includes assisting officers in identifying how to best serve individuals and families, and connecting them with resources provided by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.
For the past 10 years, Beth has been a Clinical Therapist at the Montgomery County Crisis Center on Piccard Drive and has functioned in a variety of capacities assisting individuals and families with homelessness, domestic violence, Montgomery County Public Schools school referrals and mental health evaluations.

Baltimore-based Shoe City has filed for Chapter 11 on March 31 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, according to BizJournals. The company has 39 stores in Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia, and has begun closing/going-out-of-business sales at all locations, including its two Montgomery County locations at Ellsworth Place in Downtown Silver Spring and Westfield Wheaton.
Shoe City has been a family-owned business since its inception as Eileen Shoes in 1949. The company rebranded to Shoe City in 1980. “Unfortunately, after 74 years in business, the Shoe City legacy has come to an end,” wrote Stanley Mastil– the chief restructuring officer of Esco (the official business name of Shoe City).
The April 13, 2023, Planning Board work session for the Little Falls Parkway pilot project is postponed due to the unavailability of Planning Board Chair Zyontz. A new date for the work session will be determined soon and details will be announced in a follow-up press release, on Montgomery Parks website, and on social media.
Parks staff presented details about traffic counts on the parkway and a recommendation to make the pilot project permanent at a Planning Board public hearing on March 30, 2023, which was followed by public testimony. The next step is for the Planning Board to reconvene after reviewing the parks department’s recommendation and the public testimony and decide on the future of the project. One week prior to the rescheduled work session, the Parks Department will post a memorandum summarizing and responding to the public testimony.

Rick Ellsley, Dwayne Haskins’ attorney has filed a lawsuit one years after Haskins was tragically killed on April 9th in Broward County, Florida when he was hit by a truck on I-595. Haskins was born and raised in New Jersey, but moved to Gaithersburg while attending The Bullis School in Potomac for high school. The full statement can be seen below:
“Former Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Jr. was tragically killed during the early morning hours of April 9, 2022 on I-595 in Broward County, Florida. The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Report shows that Dwayne was only feet away from making it safely across the roadway when he was struck and killed by an old dump truck. This truck was going faster than the speed limit, carrying excessive cargo, had brake system problems, and was traveling on low tread tires with separated sidewalls.
Per the Library of Congress: Visitors Can Experience Grand Space on Weekdays, During Live at the Library. The Library of Congress will soon welcome visitors to experience its grand Main Reading Room in the Thomas Jefferson Building. Beginning Tuesday, April 11, the floor of the Main Reading Room will be open for visitors to view from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays. Usually reserved for researchers, this access will offer visitors a chance to walk inside and see one of Washington’s most beautiful spaces.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to Experience the Main Reading Room on Thursday evenings starting April 13 as part of Live at the Library, when the Library’s Thomas Jefferson Building and all exhibitions are open for extended hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitors are invited to enjoy happy hour drinks and snacks available for purchase in the Great Hall overlooking the Capitol and the building’s beautiful architecture while immersing themselves in the Library’s exhibits, collections and programs.
