On Saturday, we participated in Lone Oak Brewery’s 5th birthday celebration, featuring food trucks Grubbing Hard BBQ and Jimmy’s Famous Seafood. Jimmy’s has previously been named the best Crabcake in the country by Food & Wine and ranked #1 in Maryland by us here at The MoCoShow. We asked 30 customers who ordered a crabcake or crabcake sandwich to rate it from 1 to 10.

Beyond MoCo

On June 4, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin joined contractors in Spotsylvania County to mark a construction milestone at the future $900 million Kalahari Resort, set to open in November 2026. DC Sports

In the 2025 UFL Championship Game, the DC Defenders staged a dramatic second-quarter surge that would define their 58-34 win over the Michigan Panthers. During that quarter alone, the Defenders piled on 31 points while holding the Panthers to a mere six, a shift that ultimately determined the game. Five former Washington Commanders/Redskins players are currently involved with the team.

Beyond MoCo

Virginia’s first Buc-ee’s will open on June 30th at 838 Friedens Church Rd. in Mount Crawford, VA. It will be located at the exit 240 interchange on Interstate 81 near Harrisonburg, just over 125 miles and roughly two hours from most parts of Montgomery County. The opening date was shared by the official social media page of Rockingham County, VA.

Pura Vida Miami, which has emerged as a prominent wellness-driven café chain, is planning to open its first Maryland location. According to The Burn, Pura Vida will be opening its first DC-area location in Fairfax, VA, with its first Maryland location coning to Potomac’s Cabin John Village shopping center.

Education

Lindzy Davis has been named the MCPS Elementary School Counselor of the Year. According to MCPS, Davis began her career in Baltimore City, where she discovered a passion for building relationships with students and removing obstacles to their success. After joining MCPS in 2018 at Earle B. Wood Middle School as a long-term substitute, she secured a permanent role at Georgian Forest Elementary School before arriving at Flower Hill in 2022.
