According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, on Tuesday, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, the Honorable Margaret Schweitzer sentenced Wenhui Sun, 35, of Lake Arbor, CA, to 20 years in prison, suspending all but 6.5 years to serve, followed by five years of supervised probation. Sun was also ordered to pay $457,410.34 in restitution. (more…)
Montgomery Parks, with a $7.5 million federal grant, is implementing traffic calming and road-crossing improvements at parks and trails to enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety. The public is invited to a virtual meeting on March 20 to learn more and provide feedback on projects planned for Sligo Creek, Matthew Henson, and Wheaton Regional Park.

A federal court temporarily blocked the U.S. Department of Education’s termination of K-12 teacher preparation pipeline grants while a lawsuit, joined by Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown and other state attorneys general, is underway. The lawsuit challenges the decision, arguing that the grants are essential for addressing teacher shortages and maintaining the quality of education.
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a public meeting on March 27 at 7 p.m. at Whetstone Elementary School to discuss pedestrian safety improvements along a 2.4-mile segment of Montgomery Village Avenue in Gaithersburg. (more…)
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has arrested and charged two men for theft at H&M in downtown Silver Spring after a foot pursuit, as well as two women for a strong-armed robbery on Colesville Road.
Maryland residents will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another approved form of identification, such as a passport, to board domestic flights or access secure federal facilities starting May 7, 2025. To obtain a REAL ID, individuals must visit the Maryland Department of Transportation MVA in person with required documents, including proof of identity, residency, and Social Security. (more…)
Sherwood High School’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival is back for its 53rd show—a tradition that has been going strong since 1971, with 2020 being the only year a live performance wasn’t held due to COVID-19 (a virtual show was produced instead). The event began when Sherwood students were inspired by a concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Since then, students audition for the show and spend months rehearsing with staff members to create a production that draws thousands of attendees each year.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Macie Simpson, a missing 16-year-old. (more…)
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a building fire at a large storage barn on Burnt Hill Rd in Clarksburg on Monday evening.
According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, the fire was reported around 5:37 PM after a person using binoculars saw smoke. Crews located the building with help from the 911 caller and extinguished the fire.
