On Tuesday, Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced a $27 million settlement with Precision Toxicology to resolve allegations of billing government health programs for unnecessary urine drug tests and offering kickbacks to physicians for referrals. The settlement includes oversight measures, with Maryland receiving $5.7 million and the whistleblower receiving $2.7 million. (more…)


Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Public Libraries will host Rachel Renée Russell and Nikki Russell, the creators of the popular Dork Diaries series, for a free presentation and book signing at Gaithersburg Library (18330 Montgomery Village Ave) on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1:30-6 p.m., with advance registration required. The event will include a discussion of their creative process, a Q&A session, and a book signing for copies purchased at the event.

District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos announced on Twitter/X that on October 14, 2024, Silver Spring experienced two weapons-related incidents: a shooting during an argument on Darrow Street where no one was injured, and a separate incident where officers seized a fully loaded modified Glock and arrested a suspect following a traffic stop on Automobile Boulevard. MoCo Government

On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council approved a pilot program to deploy automated noise monitoring systems, or “noise cameras,” to help enforce state laws against excessive vehicular noise. Introduced by Vice President Kate Stewart and Councilmember Natali Fani-González, the program aims to reduce noise pollution by issuing warnings and fines for vehicles that exceed noise limits, with the pilot ending on June 30, 2026. Montgomery County has announced it has received a $150,000 grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to launch the Food Truck Electrification Pilot program, which aims to replace diesel-powered food truck generators with electric systems, reducing carbon emissions and supporting local businesses through direct subsidies, zero-interest loans, and community partnerships.
