Governor Hogan Announces Launch of Applications for Maryland’s Global Gateway Program

“The Maryland Global Gateway program removes many of the risks that international companies face when exploring the U.S. market, and we are very pleased to launch this application process,” said Governor Hogan. “Maryland truly is open for business. Our state is worth the attention and investment of even more international companies, and now we look forward to making it easier than ever to forge closer ties with partners across the globe.”

Applications for the Maryland Global Gateway program will be accepted until Oct. 31, 2022. This initial $2 million investment will provide incentives for the first 50 eligible companies, including:

Water is estimated to be restored by this evening to residents affected by last night’s water main breaks in the 11500blk of Clopper Rd in Gaithersburg and the 12400blk of Clopper Rd in Germantown, according to WSSC.  Below are the latest updates:

Ninth Annual Montgomery County Free ‘Friendship Picnic’ to Celebrate Diverse Cultures and Faiths on Sunday, Sept. 18, in Wheaton

Wheaton Regional Park is located at located at 2000 Shorefield Rd. in Wheaton. A free satellite parking shuttle service to and from the Wheaton Ice Rink and athletic fields will be available.

This free event is an initiative of the Montgomery County Committee Against Hate/Violence (CAHV), which works to eradicate acts of hate and intimidation through community education, advocacy, collaboration and legislation.

City of Gaithersburg Goes Purple For The Month of September

The theme, “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community,” highlights the message that integrated evidence-based care, strong family & community support, and dedicated service providers work together to provide effective treatments & practices, making recovery from mental & substance use disorders in all its forms possible & sustainable.

A month-long “Gaithersburg Goes Purple” initiative will highlight the City’s support. Activities include the illumination of City Hall, Wells/Robertson House, and the Youth Centers in purple light, a social media campaign celebrating recovery successes, educational resources at community outreach events, a 34thanniversary celebration of Wells/Robertson House, and more.

Governor Hogan Honors International Overdose Awareness Day, Flags Flown at Half-Staff to Commemorate Lives Lost to Drug Overdoses

“The disease of addiction affects all Maryland communities, and I invite all Marylanders to join me in honoring the lives we have lost to this crisis,” said Governor Hogan. “It is also important that we lift up the stories of those in recovery. We know that treatment and recovery works, and it is my sincerest hope raising awareness will help others on their recovery journeys.”

This evening, Government House in Annapolis will be lit purple this evening to mark the occasion. Governor Hogan also issued a proclamation recognizing September as Substance Use Disorder Recovery Month.

MCFRS Respond to Collision Involving Ride On Bus Wednesday Morning in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a collision involving a Ride On Bus on North Frederick Ave (355) and Maryland Ave in Gaithersburg that occurred Wednesday morning, August 31 around 9am. Some lanes on northbound 355 are blocked and drivers should expect residual delays. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, there were no life-threatening injuries sustained. Montgomery County Climate Action Annual Report Highlights 75 Accomplishments to Reduce Climate-Related Risks

The Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a strategic plan to cut community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 80 percent by 2027 and 100 percent by 2035, compared to 2005 levels. The plan also seeks to reduce climate-related risks to the County’s residents, businesses and the built and natural environment.

During the first year of CAP implementation, County departments and agencies actively worked on 75 climate actions out of the 86 actions identified in the CAP. In FY23, County departments and agencies intend to make progress on 77 climate actions.

Montgomery County Ride On Bus Schedule to Have Changes on 24 Routes Beginning Sunday, Sept. 11

“Ridership data and on-time performance are monitored regularly, and this service change focuses on raising reliability,” said MCDOT Director Chris Conklin. “Overall, service levels will remain within one percent of where we were. Most of our over 80 routes will not experience changes.”

Applications Now Being Accepted to Participate in the 2022 Montgomery County Thanksgiving Parade

More information on the parade, and applications to participate, can be found here. There is no fee to participate.

The exciting parade traditionally kicks off the holiday season in the Silver Spring Arts and Entertainment District. The parade steps off from Ellsworth Drive and Fenton Street and proceeds south on Georgia Avenue, ending at Silver Spring Avenue. It annually attracts thousands for spectators.
