SummerFest kicks off at 6 p.m. with Nation, one of DC’s top dance bands. Enjoy delicious offerings from food and local craft beverage vendors, including Dogfish Head, Landmade, Lone Oak, Steinhardt Brewing, True Respite, and Waredaca. ATMs available onsite. The air-conditioned Activity Center will serve as a comfort station with indoor bathrooms and space to relax up until 9 p.m.
Once it gets nice and dark (approximately 9:25 p.m.), a spectacular fireworks display will light up the night with bursts of amazing colors and styles that launch up to 500 feet. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are now investigating this collision as a fatality. If charges are to be filed against the driver, it will be done following completion of the investigation and in consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney.
Crown Fried Chicken is now open at 1909 Seminary Rd in Silver Spring, taking over the former location of Krazy Steve’s (and Armand’s Pizza before that.) The restaurant is open 10am-9pm daily.
Crown Fried Chicken opened its first Montgomery County location at 9120 Rothbury Dr. in Montgomery Village (next to Athens Grill) in March of 2021 and closed the location in February of this year. The menufeatures various chicken and waffle combinations, omelets, wings, cheesesteaks, and gyros. The chain is known for using Halal chicken and has locations across the east coast. The closest franchise locations are in Hyattsville, Waldorf, and Washington, DC.
The Maryland State Highway Administration has said that repairs to fix the sinkhole caused by a failed corrugated drainage pipe in the right lane of I-270 southbound prior to Exit 9 I-370 in Montgomery County could take weeks, according to a report by WJLA. Currently MDOT is assessing the extent of the damage and advising drivers to use MD 355 (Frederick Road) as an alternate route.
MDOT SHA is working with the Montgomery County Department of Transportation to adjust traffic signal timing on MD 355 (Frederick Road), which runs parallel to I-270. Additionally, MDOT SHA is using overhead message signs well in advance of the emergency road repair to alert driver of the situation, including both directions of I-70 in Frederick County.

County Executive Marc Elrich will present the awards at the ceremonies that are part of the County’s 25th annual celebration of Juneteenth. Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden is coming to 7747 Tuckerman Ln (Cabin John Village), the former site of Lahinch Tavern, according to Store Reporter. Augie’s currently has a location at 1106 King Street in Alexandria, VA. In addition to mussels, menu items include a 10-Day Cured & Smoked Brisket Sandwich, Chicken Pot Pie Empanada, Chicken & Waffles, and Soft Shell Crab. Opening information has not been announced.

Per Prince George’s County Police: Prince George’s County Police detectives charged a man for vandalizing two public libraries in the county. These incidents occurred at the Greenbelt Branch Library and the New Carrollton Branch Library. The suspect is 30-year-old Charles Sutherland of Takoma Park.
The preliminary investigation revealed Sutherland spray-painted the word “groomer” on the exteriors of both buildings. The vandalism at the Greenbelt location occurred on June 4, 2022, and on June 9, 2022, at the branch in New Carrollton. The PGPD assumed the investigation into these incidents on June 15, 2022.
