Better Call Saul’s Jonathan Banks Graduated From Northwood High School in Silver Spring

Jonathan Banks, who plays the role of Mike Ehrmantraut, a former police officer turned private investigator in AMC’s Better Call Saul, graduated from Northwood High School in Silver Spring in 1966. Banks first played the role of Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and later in the film– El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.

Banks was born in Washington DC and grew up in Chillum Heights (Prince George’s County) before moving to MoCo. His first notable film roles were in Airplane!, 48 Hours, and Beverly Hills Cop in the early 80s.

Update on Saturday’s Fire in Olde Towne Gaithersburg That Caused $1.5 Million in Damages

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Diamond Auto Clinic located at 110 E Diamond Ave in Gaithersburg around 6pm on Saturday, April 16.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, an employee was closing the shop for night, heard a ‘pop’ and saw a fire in the rear of the building.

Silver Spring: Vehicle Fire and Fuel Spill Closes Parts of Colesville Road Sunday Morning

Colesville Rd. between East West Highway and 16th St. in Silver Spring has partially reopened after a vehicle fire and fuel spill closed the road around 9am. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and to expect delays.

According to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, a moving vehicle experienced a mechanical issue and caught fire.

MCFRS Respond to Fire in Olde Towne Gaithersburg on Saturday Evening, E Diamond Ave Currently Blocked

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Diamond Auto Clinic located at 110 E Diamond Ave in Gaithersburg around 6pm on Saturday, April 16.

Firefighters arrived to heavy fire conditions and a partial roof colapse, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer. The fire originated in a vehicle in the shop’s repair bay.

Republican Shelly Skolnick, 78, of Friendship Heights, has announced he will be running for Montgomery County Executive.

Skolnick previously ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Maryland’s 8th Congressional District in 2012, 2016, and 2020, and for an at-large seat on the Montgomery County Council in 2006, 2014, and 2018.

Longtime local news anchor Wendy Rieger died Saturday morning at the age of 65 after a battle with Glioblastoma.

A tribute by Doreen Gentzler that has been posted on NBC4’s website notes that Wendy was holding the hand of her husband, Dan, as she passed away.

Gas Prices to Increase $.36/Gallon This Sunday as “Gas Tax Holiday” Ends

Last month, Governor Hogan signed a bill that suspended Maryland’s gas tax of $.36 a gallon for 30 days. That suspension is up this Sunday, April 17.

The State of Maryland is estimated to have lost close to $100 million in tax revenue during the period. Maryland announced recently that it had a projected budget surplus of more than $7.5 billion.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Montgomery County Airpark on Friday, April 15, around 3:15pm.

The fire, which was electrical in nature, originated underneath/in the crawl space of a double wide trailer office, according to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer.
