The Associated Press is reporting that the CDC will now be extending the mask requirement for travel until May 3rd to “allow more time to study the BA.2 omicron subvariant that is now responsible for the vast majority of cases in the U.S.”

Yesterday we reported that residents will no longer be required to wear face coverings when they are passengers on Metro, Metro Bus, Ride-On, and in taxis (including Uber & Lyft) after April 18. That is no longer the case.

Gaithersburg

The family of a Ryan LeRoux, a 21-year old that was shot and killed by Montgomery County Police in front of the McDonald’s located at 18273 Flower Hill Way in Gaithersburg on July 16, 2021, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Montgomery County and the four police officers involved, according to FOX 5.

Last week the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office announced that a grand jury had declined to indict the Montgomery County police officers involved in the shooting.

Per MCPD:

At approximately 3:40 p.m., Montgomery County Police 4th District officers responded to the 1000 block of Good Hope Drive for a person shot. When officers arrived, they located a 19-year-old male in the parking lot of a residential area and initiated life-saving measures on the victim.


Beyond MoCo

The United States Attorney’s Office of West Virginia has announced that sixteen people from Maryland and West Virginia have been indicted on conspiracy charges for distribution of controlled dangerous substances and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances in Maryland and West Virginia.

The indictment alleges that large quantities of Eutylone, also known as “boot,” were trafficked from Montgomery County to Berkeley and Jefferson Counties, West Virginia between February 2019 to March 15, 2022.
