Beyond MoCo: Swingers Coming to DC

5/17 Update: Swingers DC opens on Friday, June 18th

Beyond MoCo: Swingers Coming to DC

Swingers, a mini-golf course based out of England that allows you to enjoy “crazy golf,” stunning cocktails, food vendors, beautiful bars and DJs, is coming to DuPont circle– taking over the space that was once home to Buffalo Biliards and Front Page.

There’s no dress code, ban on cell phones,  or penalties for going out of turn…unless you’re at the bar, jokes the Swingers website.

Swingers started in 2014 as a five month pop-up in a leaky warehouse in London’s Shoreditch, when founders Matt Grech-Smith and Jeremy Simmonds wanted to test out whether a venue that combined crazy golf with cocktails and street food could be a success.

News of the pop-up went viral and the tickets sold out instantly, convincing Matt and Jeremy that Swingers needed to find a permanent home.

The first permanent Swingers location opened in the City of London in May 2016 and was a hit from the start. British GQ called it “London’s new Friday night” and “One of the 60 best things in the world”, as well as nominating it for “Best Experience” at the GQ Food & Drink Awards.

A second London venue followed in 2018, in the former BHS flagship store at Oxford Circus, London. Matt and Jeremy will soon be announcing some new Swingers locations.

The adult-only mini golf spot plans to open late this Spring.

Per Eater DC, “The 20,000-square-foot complex, scheduled to open Friday, June 11, will also contain a previously announced food hall led by Knead Hospitality + Design. The D.C. restaurant group’s first foray into fast-casual includes four stalls: a pared-down take on Ed Lee’s Succotash (Lil’ Succotash); Mexican street food from Mi Vida chef Roberto Santibañez (Tu Taco); pastries and soft serve from NYC-based partner bakery Mah-Ze-Dahr; and Knead’s first shot at pizza (Kneadza Pizza).”
