Germantown Mother Still Searching For Answers After Her 17-Year Old Son Was Found Murdered in January

Updated 3/29 to include rally information

On January 24, 2022, Montgomery County Police Officers responded to a call for a body found in the 18900 block of Grotto Lane in Germantown. The following day, police identified the body as that of 17-year-old Jai’lyn Lawrence Jones.

Jai’lyn was a Germantown resident and a senior at Northwest High School.  His body was found brutally stabbed and mutilated.  As of today, no arrests have been made and the case remains active.

Alexis Marie Jones, Jai’lyn’s mother, has taken to social media to spread awareness about her son’s murder. In February, Jones created the @Justice4Jailyn Instagram page (warning: contains graphic content). On the instagram account she has been sharing memories of Jai’lyn, as well as discussing her grief, and pleading for anyone that has information regarding her son’s death to come forward.

We spoke to Alexis Jones earlier this week and she told us, “I’m praying that this awful tragedy gets the exposure it deserves. We need to wake up Montgomery County.  It’s changed and it’s becoming a nightmare for so many children, not just Jai’lyn,” and that she is hopeful that “Jai’lyn’s life and unfortunately his horrific end will be the catalyst for that change.”

Jai’lyn would have turned 18-years-old on April 28 and Jones has organized a rally in Germantown on Saturday, April 30th at the Black Rock Center for the Arts from 12pm-2pm.

She described her son as a great, compassionate child with a heart of gold,  and that he would “give you the shirt off of his back.”

She said that the issue of school violence is county-wide, noting that a shooting occurred at Magruder High School the same week that her son’s body was discovered.  On her Instagram page she wrote, “we can stop the violence and clean up those pockets of our county that produce the type of people that killed Jai’lyn. If you care you will join me, a parent just like you, who cares about the well-being of our kids just like you.”

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or 240-773-TIPS, or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the homicide suspect(s). Callers can remain anonymous.
