Announcement

When I moved back to Northern Virginia after several years in New York, most of my old friends had moved away. I found myself rebuilding a social circle from scratch.

I had plenty of people I could connect with online, but that wasn’t translating into anyone to grab a beer with after work, play trivia with, or text when I wanted to get out of the house. Making new friends as an adult required far more deliberate effort than I remembered.

Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg is in the process of completing the 9.54-acre Pleasant View Park at 10901 Darnestown Rd. with parking, community gardens, a bicycle skills course (pump track), open space, pavilions, a playground, fitness pods, and a welcome plaza. We spoke with City officials who confirmed that the park is not yet open.

Maryland

With 13% of young Americans neither working nor in school, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on the States with the Most At-Risk Youth in 2024 to identify the places where more effort is needed to help young adults succeed. Maryland came in as the state with the 9th least at-risk youth in 2024.

On Tuesday, Governor Wes Moore signed an executive order creating the Maryland Plain Language Initiative. The initiative aims to set standards in Maryland to improve communication between the state and its residents, ensuring that everyone can easily access and understand government communications, services, and supports.
