Bethesda: Progress at The Mercury at Wildwood (By HESS Construction)

The Mercury at Wildwood was approved back in January of 2019 and will be located at 10241 Old Georgetown Rd, Bethesda, MD 20814, next to the existing Wildwood shopping center. It will consist of 11,000 square feet of ground floor retail and 95,000 square feet of multi-family residential uses that will be age-restricted to persons who are 55 years of age or older. There will be 60 total residential units, 8 of which will be moderately priced dwelling units (MPDUs).

HESS construction is currently working on sewer relocation in the construction process. Below you’ll see a video of the progress:

Per SGA Companies, “The building’s owner has a rich history in Washington DC’s built environment. His father was the architect for a number of the District’s art deco treasures including the High Towers in DuPont Circle and the Majestic in Columbia Heights. His personal connection to the art deco style and his love of its timeless appearance lead him to continue this legacy with The Mercury at Wildwood.”

The building will be made out of buff brick with buff vertical and horizontal accents. There will also be panels below the windows and vertical fins that have the appearance of brushed aluminum. The building’s towers will be topped with a material similar to that of brushed aluminum that will catch the sun during the day and will be lit at night. The art deco theme will be carried throughout the building in smaller details such as wall sconces and signage.

klnb commercial real estate has announced that it has signed custom decorator Calico (also known as Calico Corners) as its first tenant. It will be taking over “Space 3” (highlighted in red in the image below), which is a 3,257 SF space that will be across from Balducci’s.

Calico was founded in Bedford Village, NY in 1948. Per its website, the decorator originally specialized in selling seconds of designer fabrics. At the time, these fine fabrics were available only through interior designers and to-the-trade showrooms. Today, they still offer a beautifully edited selection that is hard to find elsewhere – 10,000 first-quality designer fabrics, plus the ability to transform any of them into custom window treatments, furniture and more.
